Turkmen And Bokhara

The name Bokhara (or Bokara) refers to a sought-after style of hand knotted Persian rug, though we know today that it is a misnomer. Rugs that were made by various Turkmen tribes, such as the Tekke, were sold in large numbers in the city of Bokhara. They began to be referred to as Bokhara rugs, although the name was not indicative of the tribe or village where they were made, as was the usual custom. Bokhara rugs are decorative rugs featuring geometric designs and an abundance of red hues, sure to enliven any space.
